Knowledge and Conscience
HAEMARU
Haemaru Law Firm is a mid-sized law firm with approximately 35 attorneys working collaboratively across its offices in Seoul and Ansan. Established in 1993 with a mission to contribute to the democratization of Korean society and the realization of social justice, the firm has continued its legacy for over 30 years.
Haemaru has built a strong track record in matters concerning fraudulent conveyance revocation, construction, administrative, and labor law; and has provided legal advisory services to numerous public institutions, corporations, and media organizations. The firm is also home to many attorneys with specialized experience in media, intellectual property, and international contracts. The administrative expertise of lawyers who have worked in public institutions such as the Blue House (Presidential Office), the Board of Audit and Inspection, and the Seoul Metropolitan Government is another key asset of the firm. The fact that the late President Roh Moo-hyun was once a member of Haemaru remains a source of great pride for the firm.
Haemaru has led landmark rulings in historical justice cases, including the first judgments in lawsuits for compensation related to forced labor during the Japanese occupation, the retrial of victims of the Jeju 4.3 Massacre, and the fabricated espionage case of Suzy Kim. Furthermore, in high-profile cases such as the Supreme Court remand concerning Naver’s light reflection issue and the Constitutional Court's jurisdictional dispute over maritime boundaries, Haemaru has developed new legal theories. As a result, the firm is recognized as a “mid-sized law firm that knows how to win against giants” in a highly polarized legal market.
Haemaru defines its history and mission as “Knowledge and Conscience.” It is a law firm that delivers knowledge while upholding conscience — a collective of warm-hearted individuals who handle cold matters with integrity. That is Haemaru.
