I represented plaintiffs in litigation against Japanese corporations arising from forced mobilization during the Japanese colonial period and obtained a favorable judgment from the Supreme Court sitting en banc. In the Jeju April 3 retrial cases, I successfully petitioned for retrial proceedings despite the absence of any written judgment, resulting in a decision to reopen the cases. State violence encompasses not only wrongdoing by our own government, but also the injustices committed by the Japanese colonial regime. Victims and their bereaved families therefore have the inherent right to demand an apology and receive compensation. I will continue striving to ensure that such state violence never occurs again on this land.
